The Forgotten Tags

I know how it is. You are adding a new product listing and there is so much stuff to remember about SEO optimization, that one tends to forget the little things that can get you a few extra search engine views. Tags are important, but what about those tags that we forget to include. What are they? TYPOS. I know that no matter how good my spelling is, my fingers don't always comply and my eyes don't always see straight. There are certain words that I type wrong regularly no matter how hard I try not to.

So when listing your tags, think about how some of your tags/keywords could be misspelled. For example, I was looking at my stats yesterday, paying attention to what people searched on before arriving at my store. One person had typed toquoise instead of turquoise. When you start to really think about it, you can come up with a few extra keywords for each listing.

Remember, not everyone can spell, and not everyone can type perfectly. I hope this helps bring you a few more hits.

BAD WEATHER ADVISORY!

If you have wind and snow drifts, stay home! Don't do what we did and get stuck in the snow for 2 hours, 10 yards from our house. Snow was too deep to walk around (hubby tried it but fell in a snow drift up to his butt and couldn't get out. He had to roll around in the snow and crawl out. Truck couldn't go forwards or backwards and I needed to pee. Damn!

So Ken calls AAA, they tell him one and a half hours, but hopefully sooner seeing as how we are stuck in the middle of the road. So we sit there, luckily with heat and radio, but damn I needed to pee. Two hours later a truck arrives. $300.00 to pull us out of the snow, BUT not to tow us around the corner to our house. Scream! Short story long, the guy suggested we park up 50 yards from our house and walk. Wind is blowing, snow is drifting and swirling. No way, says my bladder. Guy drives off, I say to Ken, let's go back to the store. So back out onto the road (this one isn't so bad) and headed back from whence we came. Lucky for me there is a gas station not too far and I was able to go pee at last.

So now we are at our trading post, sleeping on the floor. That was an expensive trip home! Plus, Ken's door got messed up by the wind and he hurt himself when he fell. Other than that it was a very Happy Thanksgiving. LOL

And the moral of this story is...go pee before you go anywhere!

Just in time for the upcoming holiday season, ArtFire is emerging from beta testing! What does that mean? Early next week the site will be getting an updated look and interface, and 50,000 people will be getting the chance to get in on a huge group coupon promotion. Normally the monthly rate for a Pro account on ArtFire is $15.95/month, but for a minimum of 20,000 people this rate will be cut by more than half!

As a part of the exit from beta, ArtFire is lowering the Pro account rate to just $5.95/month. Sitting here, crafting an anklet, I found myself smiling at the Prairie Dogs playing tag across the street. I don't know why, but I decided to make a list of things that warm my heart and make me smile. Here is my top ten:

Family and the thoughtful things they do.
A baby's smile.
My dog, Loki, playing all by himself with his happy face a mirror of fun.
People helping others less fortunate than themselves.
Miracles, both large and small.
Willow trees rustling in the breeze. Their silver-backed leaves shimmering.
Cool, misty rain on a hot day.
Bright yellow Daffodils. Their heads bobbing in the March winds.
Snowflakes on Christmas Eve.
Buying new beads to play with.

The Promotional Pixie Strikes Again!

Howdy folks,

Hope you are all enjoying sunny weather and blue skies. Here in Livingston, Montana, Spring has finally sprung. Yes, it is late, but we had snow in June last year, so maybe it's actually early (for us) this year.

I have finally finished beading my antler peace pipe and am now halfway through a beaded watchband. What are you working on? Leave me a comment below...I am interested to know.

Has anyone tried that Bark-OffTM thingy for dogs that has been advertised on TV? I ordered 2 (which turned into 4, but that's another story) and it seemed as if it was working at first. Now a few days later, Loki is back to his barking fits again. Please let me know if you have used one with any success or have found something else that really worked for you. Please leave me a comment below. Loki (Jack Russell) is fine until he sees another dog, cat, cow, horse, deer, you get the picture!

Hey folks,

I hope you are having a fantabulous day. Getting ready for tourist season here in Montana. Here's hoping it's a good one as this small town really needs it to be. Now if only the weather would make up its mind. One day snow, next day sun. Yay, Spring is here. Welcome Robins...dangit snow again. LOL

Today, I am featuring a very talented Artisan, Linda Creager, from NatureWhispers in Williams, Arizona.

Linda is a self-taught artisan, with more than one artistic streak, and several different skills. Her original oil and acrylic paintings are steeped in nostalgia and warmth from within. They would bring a sentimental glow and happiness of a former place or time to any room.

In addition to her smaller paintings, Linda paints custom murals. I'd love to have the amazing hand painted mural that Linda did for Taylor's room. Now all I need is a room! Check out the murals here.

FAWNEAT - HOT OFF THE PRESS

My friend Mike has just published his book, Fawneat. It is a futuristic adventure through 3 dimensional space and well worth a read. I personally think it would make a terrific movie. Here's a little insight into the book.

Travel (guided by 24 Illustrations) to the far-distant planet Fawneat with a determined crew of ten genetically engineered soldiers on a desperate mission to find out what is happening to the rapidly disappearing population. The vanishing groups of colonists and miners on the vast world aren't dying of old age, and they're not leaving the planet, but they are taking every nut, bolt, and slab of concrete with them when they go! The greedy owners may have waited too long to save the inhabitants of far-a-way Fawneat, as on the first day Lieutenant Kayle's elite troops meet an Ancient Predator with a very up-to-date machine. Immediately stripped of their modern weaponry, with any further help years away, the soldiers are pushed to the limits of even their powerful, genetically altered beings. Only by defeating the Ancient Predators on their own terms will the soldiers, and the colonists that they begin to care for intimately, have any chance of existing at all!

What's new?

I have just finished this white and blue/purple peyote stitched hat band. You can find it in my studio. I have also uploaded 4 of my beaded turkey feathers, some new earrings (more coming in the next two days), and a new bracelet set in pink pearls and quartz crystal chips.

A Winner, Hoops La La La and a Happy St David's Day!

Hey everyone,

Welcome back to my blog. First business of the day is to choose a winner of the Sock Monster giveaway. I was impressed by the things you came up with, and it has made it hard for me to choose the one that appealed to me most. However, after much deliberation I am going to choose the one that I would never have thought of in a million years. To the lady who uses odd socks to clean up after her dog, I award $10.00 to spend in my store. I will be emailing her after I finish posting this update. Tomorrow is St. David's day and I will be wearing my Daffodil to mark the day. There are many beautiful flowers in Wales but the yellow daffodil, associated with St. David, is the Welsh national flower. I am half Welsh and I like to think of my Welsh half as my better half, or my singing half. St David's Day, as celebrated today, dates back to 1120, when Dewi (David) was canonised by Pope Callactus the Second, and March 1st was included in the Church calendar.Each year, throughout the world, wherever Welsh families can foregather, St. David's death is commemorated on March 1st. St. David is the Patron Saint of Wales.

THE STORY OF THE LEEK

While most of the ladies wear Daffodils on St David's Day, a lot of men prefer to wear leeks. Leeks were revered by the ancient Egyptians as a symbol of the universe and prized by the Romans as an emblem of virtue, the Leek reached its true apotheosis in Wales. Celebrated as one of its national emblems, the Leek is worn by the Welsh Guards and the Prince of Wales. In the Battle of Heathfield in the 7th century, Welsh troops wore Leeks in their helmets to distinguish them from their enemies.

Happy St. David's Day to all my Welsh brothers and sisters worldwide!

Well I have spent most of this week working on accounts, getting ready for the old tax return, but I have managed to make a few pairs of earrings and some stretchy kids bracelets for the Trading Post. I beaded some prayer feathers and have also started a peyote hat band. What have you guys been working on?

You want to be good and help save the planet, but you keep forgetting to take your bag with you to the grocery store. Hey, stuff happens. So what do you do with those plastic bags you are collecting in the drawer. Any bags we end up with we recycle through our Trading Post, or use in place of trash bags. We don't throw any of them away. We recycle boxes, packing peanuts, bubble wrap. We try not to throw away stuff that can be used again. What do you do with your bags etc.? Leave me a comment, I'd like to know. :))

Sock it to the Sock Monster

Hey there,

Have you ever wondered what to do with all those orphan socks that the Sock Monster leaves behind? Well here's a few ideas for you to ponder.

In cold weather I am always complaining about the cold whipping up my coat sleeves. But recently I found a cure for the problem. Old cotton socks! Long socks work best. Cut the feet off the socks and put the feet aside for another use. Sew the raw edge of the socks to prevent them from fraying. Wear the stetchy tube on your wrists under the sleeve of your coat or jacket and voila! These homemade wristwarmers are perfect for crafters too!

Use the feet of the socks as dusters or polishing rags.

Here's some more uses for odd socks.

1. Use childrens socks to wrap delicate Christmas ornaments before storing or any other small delicate items before packing in your suitcase or moving boxes.

2. Use clean large socks over your shoes before packing them in your suitcase. This will help protect your shoes, but will also protect your clothes from dirt or polish.

All Tools are Not Equal

Hey everybody,

Sorry I have not updated in a while, I have been really busy up to my eyes doing a year end inventory. Man, what a job!

I have spent most of today making ankle bracelets for summer. I will be listing them in a couple of weeks along with other things that I am currently working on. While I was making the anklets, it dawned on me, not all tools are loved the same. There are 3 tools I could never be without. I have an old pair of nippers, an old pair of pliers, and a fairly new crimping tool. These are the mainstay of my toolbox, my favorites, the tools that feel right in my hands. I have many other tools, but these three are the ones I would like to have with me always. What is your favorite tool and why? Leave me a comment below.

Christmas Presents Not to Give

Hi everyone. I thought I'd take some time out this morning to update my blog. So, hmm, what is this post to be about? Actually, I want to write about something dear to my heart and something I feel very strongly about. I have had first hand experience of this topic, having worked with rescue and have had my heart crushed many a time. The subject is...pets as Christmas gifts.

Christmas is absolutely the wrong time to get a puppy/dog. So many puppies/dogs end up in rescue each new year through no fault of their own, but due to the fact that the owner didn't think it through. Christmas is way too exciting for puppies. Lots of paper and things to shred or crunch on, too much rich food and potentially dangerous foods easily available, and in the excitement of it all, no-one paying any attention to pup's basic needs. Left to their own devices they can get into trouble in a heartbeat. Puppies are a lot of work from day one. They need set routines for feeding, learning their manners, and toileting etc.
So, if you are seriously thinking of getting a puppy for Christmas, why not get everything the puppy needs, collar, leash, food bowls, etc. and then go get the puppy after Christmas, when life has returned to as normal as life gets.

Christmas Past

As I sit here creating gifts for family and friends, my mind wanders to Christmas's past and I am again filled with the spirit and golden glow of the season. Memories of how it used to be waft around me. The sights of the shops decked out in tinsel, the Salvation Army singing carols outside Woolworths, people scurrying this way and that loaded up with parcels. The Nativity on display outside the church on the main road home, reminding us of the reason for the season, and everywhere you looked Christmas trees peeped through partially closed curtains, merrily winking in the darkness.

And then the aromas. Mince pies and sausage rolls, my mother making Christmas Cake and Plum Pudding. Sage and onion stuffing, bacon-wrapped sausages, turkey, roast potatoes and parsnips, brussell sprouts and carrots, giblet gravy. MMMMMMMMMmmmmm.

But there is another side, a side I have been aware of from a very young age. The side of the holidays that some of us don't tend to think about. The elderly, the infirm, the homeless, and all those less fortunate than ourselves. I have always felt for those people and have given when I could, even if it was only a smile from my heart to let them know somebody noticed them. My wish this year is for recognition, food, warmth, and help for those less fortunate than myself. Now that would be the best Christmas present of all.

Happy Thanksgiving, Thread Killers, and Veggies

Hi there all,
In these times of economic depression, I know we all need to do what we can to save, recycle, and re-use, but sometimes we don't think of all the simple things we can do to help ourselves. This evening I was peeling and chopping vegetables for tomorrows dinner when I looked at my pile of peelings and carrot tops and thought "what a waste." So I decided to do something that I don't normally do, but will be doing in future. I washed the tops and peelings really well and then put them into a freezer bag and into the freezer. I figured if I did this each time, I would soon have enough to make vegetable stock. Anything I can't save will go to the compost bin. I am obviously not the first one to think of this, but I thought I would share it with you, so maybe someone else might think it a good idea.

Speaking of ideas. I found myself getting paranoid recently thinking I was a thread killer in our crafting forum. It seemed like every time I posted in a thread, nobody posted after me. I changed soap and perfume to no avail and so feeling sorry for myself (just kidding gang) I opened a new thread entitled "I'm always last, sniff."

In an effort to persuade at least one person to post after me, I said I would mention the first six posters in my Thanksgiving blog. Hmm. The gang, as I now refer to them, rampaged through the thread, posting some of the funniest pictures and posts I have seen or read. I decided they were all so funny they should all be mentioned.

I Am Thankful For....

Hi friends,

I was sitting here thinking about Thanksgiving and asking myself the question, what am I thankful for. I realized it is actually quite a long list. To name but a few, I am thankful for life, for my family and friends, for my health, for a roof over my head, and a place to sleep. I am thankful for the food we eat, a job, skills to work with, and heating to warm my bones. I also realized that this is enough. There was a time that I lost almost all of my material possessions, I learned a lot from this. I learned that possessions are just that, another form of baggage that we carry around with us.I also learned that there are some wonderful kind and caring people out there who will help you and stand by you, no matter what. You are never alone, unless you really want to be. And so I am thankful, grateful, and happy living in the now and I wish that for you all too.

Speaking of friends, I'd like to introduce you to Mv. Mv is an Artfire Artisan and provider of tea, sandwiches, advice, and laughter in the forums. Mv is always ready to lend an ear, or to share with us some of the wonderful things she has found on Artfire. I visited her store today and had fun rummaging around among her handmade treasures. Yesterday I stumbled upon (pardon the pun)a web site by the same name. I joined the site, chose my favorite categories, and before long I was stumbling upon web sites that matched my choices. However, I WARN YOU, after a few web sites I found myself addicted! Some of the humor sites that came up were hilarious. Beading Tip

AAAAAAAAaarrrrgh! Okay, so you just tripped over the cat and dropped your beading tray on the floor. Seed beads have exploded everywhere like rice at a wedding. You have no bead vac and you have arthritic knees so can't kneel down on the floor. How do you pick up all your beads? Grab yourself a long stick, or one of those grabber doodads and wrap duct tape around the end, sticky side out. Voila, now you can pick up all your beads with no bending down or getting on the floor. The beads easily stick to the tape. Once the tape is full, carefully remove it from your stick and brush your beads onto a non-slippery surface. Repeat until you have rescued all your beads. Clean them up and away you go again.

Beading Tips of the Week

Prevent tarnishing: Keep your sterling silver and silver-plated beads, findings, and jewelry in a zip lock bag or in an airtight container to prevent tarnishing.

What to do with left-over head/eye pin wire: This week I have been making a bunch of earrings and was wondering what to do with all the left over pieces of head and eye-pin wire. I hate to throw anything away and so I made up a bunch of single bead looped links and stored them away in a zip-lock bag. Some time in the future I will make them into a linked mult-colored necklace or bracelet.

Peyote, Kevlar, and Cool Slide Shows

Good day fellow bloggers and blog readers,

I love all of this creative social networking and cool widgets. What did we all do before we became so creative or had cellphones?

Speaking of creative, I am steadily beading Christmas gifts for family and friends. I will be adding some of the gifts I have made to my gallery at my Artfire store if I have time. Time, that wonderful fun-packed space that goes way too quickly when you are having fun. Hmm let me see, so far I have made a miniature amulet bag/necklace, a beaded bookmark in red with green and gold Christmas trees, two Dutch spiral bracelets, 3 eyeglass holders, 3 keyrings, and a beaded credit card holder.

I have finally gotten Peyote stitch down. YAY! For some reason I was making this stitch way more difficult in my head than it actually is. I feel like I have jumped the wall and found a treasure trove of things to make on the other side. I think Peyote will probably replace square stitch as my favorite stitch pretty soon, although there is room for both!

I found a cool web site yesterday where you can make your own snazzy picture slide shows. It is really easy to set up and has lots of different styles and effects. Beading Tips

Need a strong thread for beading? Need it in black? Try Kevlar thread. It doesn't stretch, it won't break (you have to cut it with wire nippers)and it will thread through a beading needle. I use it all the time! Keep an eye out for it online. It is available in black, brown, or yellow.

Now for a special appeal.

Please don't forget those less fortunate than ourselves. This is going to be a really long, hard winter for some. Please contribute to the food banks even if it's just one can of soup. That one can of soup would mean the world to someone who is cold and hungry. Please don't forget the animals too. Lets make this a year of goodwill and peace to all.

Here We Go Again

So here we go again. Hi people, the snow is back already! It only seems like 5 minutes ago the trees got their leaves. Now they are yellowed and blanketing the ground in a swirling carpet of fall colors. The first day it snowed, the weight of the heavy, wet snow did a lot of damage to our trees. Everywhere you look there are snapped off limbs and branches to be cleared away. The Prairie Dogs across the street don't know if they are coming or going, poor things.

We haven't had a chance to slack off ourselves yet though. Whoever said "a woman's work is never done" wasn't wrong! Right now it's preparation time for our big sale of the year. (Don't all run me down at once, k.) We decided this year to try to help out our regular customers and so will be holding a Grand Winter Holiday Sale between November 1st through December 31st. Ding Dong the Tooth is gone!

Hi y'all,

It's been 5 days since my tooth was pulled along with two others (ouch!) so I am back to being pain free. What a relief that is. Now I can concentrate on more updates for Indian Nations, this blog, my Psychedelic Rainbow site, and of course my Artfire store.

We have added a really cool range of Buffalo Tallow lotions, soaps, body sprays, and lip balms to our Indian Nations store. They are made by Prairie Harvest in

South Dakota and smell divine. My favorites are Sweet Pea and Rhubarb and Sweet Violet and Sassafras. There is also Sweetgrass, Amber Woods, and Lavender and Sage. We will be adding more fragrances as time goes by. I have been busy the past few nights finishing a beaded amulet bag for my friend as a surprise. She hasn't heard from me in 14 years so it should be one hell of a surprise! I just recently tracked her down. I have also been beading some Native American inspired earrings as gifts for Christmas. What have you guys been making?

The other day I ordered 30lbs of cherry pits. I forgot how heavy 30lbs is, almost dropped the box when it arrived. LOL I need these for my heat pads I am making. All I have to do now is figure out how to use the sewing machine I bought from the local thrift store. (Thank you, Jamie!)It has been many years since I have used one of these electronic sew-your-finger-if-you're-not-careful machines, so it should be fun trying to figure it all out. It has a box full of different feet and I remember thinking at the time, what the heck do I need that many feet for? My original sewing machine only had one! I just need a plug and play machine. LOL I found some material sample books in pristine condition with all kinds of different prints and patterns that will make wonderful covers for hand warmers and pocket warmers. It's amazing what you can find when you rummage. I encourage all of you to go rummage around in thrift stores and charity shops. They are filled with goodies you can recycle or upcycle. Please recycle the things you don't want or need. That old coat of yours may keep someone from freezing this winter.

Tips, Techniques, & Stuff

Morning/afternoon friends and readers,

I'm back to normal, or as normal as I get. I have just gotten over a huge abscess caused by a broken tooth. I couldn't believe I could see my own cheek without looking in a mirror. I looked like a cross between Alvin the Chipmunk and the Elephant Man, or in my case, woman. Oh the pain! If I hadn't already been married I think I would have proposed to the Doc who gave me the antibiotics and the kick-butt painkillers. Thank you , thank you, thank you! Now I have to get psyched up to go get the darn tooth pulled out. Not fun, not fun at all!

I have been having trouble with knots lately, so I thought I'd share a few knots with you.

Square knot
Figure 1: Bring the left-hand cord over the right-hand cord and around.

Figure 2: Then place right over left and bring it through the loop.

Surgeon's knot
A surgeon's knot is a stronger version of a square knot. Because it has an extra loop-through, the top of the knot curls around the sides.
Begin as a square knot: left over right and around then right over left and through. Go through the loop again, then tighten.

Double half hitch
Before tightening a regular half hitch knot go through the loop again. Then tighten carefully. I hope this will help a few of you to master a few beading knots.

The Most Comprehensive Study of Nutrition Ever Conducted and the Startling Implications for Diet, Weight Loss and Long-term Health. I would recommend this book to anyone, but don't take my word for it, read the book for yourself. You will be glad you did.

Are you having a handmade Christmas?

Yes, it's time to think about Christmas again. It seems like it was only 5 minutes ago it was Spring here in Montana. The summer has flown by like a pigeon on a mission. Already leaves are turning yellow and starting to fall. Thanksgiving is literally around the corner. So much to do and so little time. EeeeeeeeeK!!

This year I have decided to create handmade Christmas presents for everyone, including Loki. Over the next few weeks I will be busy beading and sewing presents according to the individual likes of my relatives and friends.

Many years ago, before I was a twinkle in my Dad's eye, people used to make gifts for each other, so this is no new idea by a long chalk. Handmade dolls, homemade cookies, cakes, puddings, and pies, clothing to keep you warm, hand carved toys and whistles. Whatever people could make and afford to make. These gifts were made with love and were treasured by the person receiving them.

Christmas always brings to mind one of my favorite uncles and our childhood Christmas celebrations. My great uncle Jack and his siblings were poor as children. There was not much food to go around and no money, but at Christmas time they always had a sock each containing an apple, an orange, and some nuts. If they were especially lucky they might find a bright new penny in the toe of the sock. That was a lot of money then! They looked forward to this every year and made up a saying that my great uncle Jack used to say a lot. It was "Roll on Christmas so we can have some nuts." My brother and I used to giggle at him every time he said it. If we had found that in our stockings there would have been an uproar in our house on Christmas morning, but that saying actually taught us (as we grew older and wiser) to appreciate what we did get at Christmas and birthdays. It also taught us to think of others at Christmas time who did not have a gift at all. I will make a few extra gifts this year for whoever needs one. :))

It's not easy to think of gifts to make for family and friends, but with a little thought and secret questioning of relatives and friends you can usually come up with something special for everyone. If you are going to make handmade jewelry such as earrings it is important to check whether the person has pierced ears or not! (Yup, I slipped up big time one year.) Here's a small list of ideas. Hey, Hey, Hey

Hey, hey, hey,

Here we are already at the end of August. Doesn't time fly when you are having fun!? We have been busy in our Trading Post in Livingston, Montana, although tourist season has had its up and down days for sure. Hopefully the economy will start to turn around soon.

Livingston and Paradise Valley were recently featured on Anthony Bourdain's program on the Travel Channel. It was cool to see our beautiful mountains and river valleys showcased. Montana is truly the "Last Best Place" and I feel very privileged to live here. The winds may scream across the Wine Glass often during the long winter months and it may snow every day during the same period, but I would not want to be anywhere else.

So what has everyone been up to? I have been busy with customers. Our wholesale silver to the public remains as popular as ever. I will be adding some silver and a lot more items to our Indian Nations website this fall. My beading has not been as prolific in the past 3 months as I can only bead in between customers and in the evenings. I am currently trying to master tubular Peyote stitch. It takes discipline, patience, and concentration to do Peyote stitch, none of which I possess. LOL I will never be a Jack of all beading stitches, but I could be a Jill of some.

I'm running a little behind this week as my laptop screen started to flicker faster than a dragonfly's wings. It isn't a virus, my computer repair guy has confirmed that. So it could be a hardware problem, we will see. Still running diagnostics and adding Ram and hopefully it will be well again soon.

Loki is now 13 months old. We bought him the biggest bone we could find to celebrate his 1st birthday. It was twice the size of him! At first he just drug it around the floor by one knuckle end. Then in true Loki style he picked the bone up in the middle and staggered around like a drunken Sparrow before crashing into the door frame. That was the end of that. LOL

Beading Tip

Always choose the best findings you can afford for your jewelry project. Sometimes the findings you use can make the difference between a piece of jewelry selling or not. I have a favorite bracelet made by a friend of mine. It was the pretty clasp that first caught my eye and said "buy me."

It's a Beautiful Day!

Hi....

Its a beautiful day in Livingston, Montana. The snow-capped mountains bold against a big blue sky, and Prairie Dogs playing tag with Crows across the street. Spring at last, better late than never.

The only thing missing right now is customers. Gas is currently $2.45 and I'm praying it stays that way for the summer. Last year's $4.00 + per gallon just about killed the tourist trade in Livingston and surrounding areas, which is what this small town relies upon. We know it won't be a barn burner year, but let's hope we all get through it.

I have been adding more handmade items in my Artfire store and working on our Trading Post website trying to get a bunch of stuff up. You can see my progress at Indian Nations Trading Post/livingstonindex.html.

As for beading, I have been busy hand beading strips for my buckskin bags. It turns out the bags are very popular and all of the ones I have made so far have been sold before I could take pictures of them. I'm not complaining though! I have more bags in the making and will hopefully have some more finished soon. I have also been beading rosettes both large and small for other projects I have underway.

Today's Beading Tip

Keep all of your odd beads, bits of chain, broken earrings,old buttons etc. and when you have enough, make a one-of-a-kind 3 strand Treasure Necklace loaded with color. Make it BIG! This is a fantastic way to use up all your odds and ends.

And Now for Something Completely Different

Hey there, it's me again.

Hands up how many of you have gotten ticked off when trying to wax your thread for beading? I have! I have used bees wax and no end of thread conditioners (you know the ones I mean), but for an eager-to-get-started beader like me, it takes way too long. So, do you say to-heck-with-it, not wax your thread, and risk gtting snarled up, or have you discovered a fix for the problem?

Well just the other day I came across a post by a beader who uses lip balm to condition her thread. BINGO! It works like a dream! Put some lip balm (Chapstick) on your lips and then pull your thread crossways through your lips, coating the thread. Of course I don't recommend threading your needle before you do this! So now you have waxed thread and supersoft lips. Thank you and kudos to the lady who shared this tip (I'm sorry I didn't write down your name).

My Jack Russell puppy, Loki, is nine months old on the 19th April, 2009. He is a bundle of energy and sharp as a tack. We are well into his teenage phase and I'm wondering how many years he will be in this particular phase. Grin.

Here's a pic of the little rascal. He loves visitors to our Trading Post in Livingston, Montana, so if you find yourself in the area, be sure to stop in and say Hi.

Don't be put of if he shows his teeth in greeting, it's his smile. He will usually be going "Boing" too.

Weather Report for Montana

There will be snow until June...aaaaaaargh!!!! Don't get me wrong, I love snow, I really do, except when the snow ploughs pile it up where you have to cross the street. If you've never stepped into a mound of snow before, be warned, it's "bleeping" cold! Frozen thighs are best on a chicken.

Introduction to Rhiannon's Corner

Hi, my name is Lesley. It would have been Rhiannon if I had had my way being half Welsh and all, but it wasn't to be. Instead, I chose it as one of my pen names.

I haven't yet decided what Rhiannon's Corner is going to be about, so hang in with me as I develop some kind of eclectic page with hopefully something of interest to everyone.

You could say I'm a Jill of quite a few trades, definitely mistress of none. I am mostly self-taught, a "pick it up as you go along" type of gal and over the years have dabbled in a few odd choices of job type. The majority of work years were spent crunching numbers until I couldn't stand it anymore. So after 17 years I decided to study animal behavior, mainly dogs and cats,and after much learning and training set up as an Animal Behavior Counselor working with a local Veterinary Surgeon. This was one of the most rewarding jobs I ever did. I did my best to create happy dog and cat homes and to keep re-homed dogs in their new homes and for the most part it worked out okay. In many cases there was nothing wrong with the dog or cat, just an owner/s expecting them to behave like humans. Maybe I'll share some of my experiences with you when I have time.

I have been a silver service waitress, a barmaid, a turnstile operator at Oxford United Football Club, a shop assistant, a gas pump operator, cleaning lady, and recycling yard operator. Currently I work in my husband's Trading Post. So add silver jewelry cleaner/salesperson to the list.

I like to sing, that would be my Welsh half. I love the computer, Internet. I am a published poet and writer. My first love right now is beading. It's my therapy. I can float away in my mind to faraway places while I create. My favorite beading stitch is Brick stick and I never use a loom. Not because I don't like the loom, I don't have the patience to string the thing!
